RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Thousands of Buddhists from various regions crowded the courtyard of the Bunda Maria Sapta Duka Catholic Church in Mendut Village, Mungkid District, Magelang Regency, on Sunday, July 26, 2026. They were not there to worship at the church, but rather to participate in the Asadha Mahapuja 2570 BE/2026 celebrations, which used the church courtyard as the registration location.

The church, located not far from Mendut Temple, functions as the Asadha Mahapuja Secretariat and Registration Office. From here, the committee handles registration for the procession, data collection, and provides technical information to ensure the entire event runs smoothly and orderly.

This is not the first time the church courtyard has been used as a registration center. The collaboration between the Asadha Mahapuja committee and the management of the Bunda Maria Sapta Duka Catholic Church has been ongoing for years, demonstrating the spirit of mutual support between religious communities.

The Coordinator of the Asadha Mahapuja Secretariat, Bhikkhu Abhiseno, stated that the use of the church grounds demonstrates a tangible manifestation of the harmony that is continuously maintained together. He noted that the church annually provides space for the committee to serve the celebration participants.

Bhikkhu affirmed that this collaboration demonstrates a spirit of mutual support, particularly in organizing Buddhist holidays. He believes this demonstrates interfaith harmony that should be maintained and upheld together.

This year's celebrations began with the Asadha Parade, attended by thousands of Buddhists from across Indonesia. At around 1:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), participants began their spiritual journey by walking from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple as a tribute to Buddhist teachings.

As thousands of participants made their way to Borobudur, the church grounds, which served as the registration center, radiated a message of harmony amidst diversity. This event also emphasized that interfaith harmony is a real strength of diversity in Indonesia.
