RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is strengthening community-based efforts to combat illegal drug abuse by expanding cooperation between the Ministry of Villages and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) through the Drug-Free Village (Desa Bersinar) program. The initiative aims to protect rural communities from narcotics while supporting the country's long-term human development agenda.

The commitment was reaffirmed by Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto during the commemoration of the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (HANI) at the BNN Rehabilitation Center in Bogor, West Java, on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The event brought together government officials to strengthen collaboration against narcotics at both the national and local levels.

Yandri said villages play a crucial role because they make up the majority of Indonesia's territory and are home to millions of people. He stressed that ensuring rural communities remain free from drug abuse is essential to safeguarding the country's future.

"The future of this nation depends on all of us, not only on the President, ministers, governors, or regents. President Prabowo's message is clear: we must work together because we are not supermen—we are a super team," Yandri said.

The Drug-Free Village program is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Villages and BNN that encourages village governments and local communities to actively prevent drug trafficking and substance abuse. The government has also established reporting and monitoring mechanisms to support early detection and community participation.

The minister noted that the program has already been launched in several provinces with the active involvement of village administrations and residents. Authorities hope the initiative will build stronger public awareness and resilience against narcotics across all age groups.

During the event, Yandri, BNN Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, and Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago visited the BNN Expo and witnessed the destruction of approximately 3.37 tons of confiscated narcotics seized in law enforcement operations across Indonesia. The destroyed evidence included methamphetamine, hashish, cannabis flowers originating from Thailand, and precursor chemicals, with small portions retained for laboratory examination.

The government emphasized that combating narcotics requires active participation from both state institutions and the wider public. Through programs such as Drug-Free Villages, Indonesia aims to build healthier, more resilient communities and strengthen the quality of human resources needed to achieve its Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
