RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is stepping up its protection for migrant workers through a new cross‑ministry collaboration that ties directly into President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programs.
The Ministry of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI), together with the Ministry of Law, and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), will coordinate efforts to safeguard workers at every stage--from departure to employment abroad and eventual return home.
P2MI Minister Mukhtarudin praised the Ministry of Law for initiating the partnership, calling it a strategic step toward comprehensive protection.
“We must strengthen safeguards for migrant workers before they leave, while they are employed, and after they return. Protection has to be carried out from start to finish,” he said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Mukhtarudin stressed that no single ministry can handle the challenges alone, underscoring the need for cross‑sector cooperation. He noted that the collaboration will bolster prevention of human trafficking, improve legal protection, and drive reforms in migrant worker governance.
He expressed hope that the joint effort will deliver concrete solutions to long‑standing issues faced by Indonesian workers abroad, while supporting national development priorities.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to address many problems, especially in preventing trafficking and ensuring legal safeguards for our migrant workers,” he added.
The minister closed by thanking the Ministry of Law and PPPA, emphasizing that sustained inter‑ministerial synergy is key to building a stronger, more sustainable system of protection for Indonesian migrant workers. (Misni Parjiati)
