RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has intensified its crackdown on online gambling, with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) reporting the removal of 3.7 million websites and content linked to illegal betting between October 20, 2024, and July 12, 2026.

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid revealed the figure during the OJK Banking Forum 2026 at Bank Indonesia’s office complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

She noted that public participation has been crucial, with citizens reporting 156,000 bank accounts suspected of being used for online gambling through the portal cekrekening.id. Kemkomdigi also received reports of 85,500 mobile numbers allegedly tied to fraud and scamming activities.

Minister Meutya stressed that tackling online gambling requires collaboration among multiple stakeholders, including Kemkomdigi, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the banking industry. This joint effort spans from early detection of suspicious content to cutting off access.

She highlighted the importance of data integration to ensure swift handovers from Kemkomdigi to relevant authorities.

“We are moving from reactive takedowns to anomaly detection based on patterns. Fast data supply and integration are key to accelerating account and mobile identity checks,” she explained, as quoted by Antara.

Beyond content removal, Kemkomdigi has reported around 38,000 accounts suspected of online gambling activity to OJK. Of these, 32,500 have been closed, marking an 88.5 percent success rate in blocking gambling-related accounts.

“Closing these many accounts is no easy task. I believe the banking sector has played a big role, but we aim to push the numbers even higher,” Minister Meutya said. ***
