RRI.CO.ID, Karawang - Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister, Andi Amran Sulaiman, announced a historic milestone as the government’s rice reserves reached 5,000,198 tons, Thursday, April 23, 2026. The figure marks the highest level ever recorded in the country, particularly for the month of April.

The statement was delivered during a working visit to a rice warehouse in Karawang, West Java. On that occasion, Amran affirmed that the achievement represents a significant step in strengthening national food security.

“Thank God, today Indonesia’s rice stock has reached 5,000,198 tons. This is the first time in history,” Amran said. He added that the milestone reflects the collective hard work of all elements of the nation.

According to him, the success is not solely attributed to the Ministry of Agriculture but is the result of cross-sector collaboration. He highlighted the roles of Bulog, the military, the police, and the wider community as key contributors.

In addition, the government continues to strengthen national storage capacity. In Karawang, rented warehouses have a capacity of 102,000 tons and are expected to be fully occupied in the near future.

Nationwide, rented warehouse capacity has reached 2 million tons, in addition to 3 million tons of government-owned storage. This infrastructure expansion is considered crucial for maintaining supply stability and stabilizing rice prices.

“All journalists have networks across Indonesia, please check directly at the warehouses,” Amran stated. He stressed that this openness reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Furthermore, Amran said Indonesia is now in a stronger position to face global challenges. “God willing, we will not import rice in 2025 and 2026,” he said, adding that Indonesia is beginning to contribute to global food security.
