RRI.CO.ID, Serang - Indonesia marked National Press Day (HPN) 2026 with a high-level gathering that emphasized the strategic role of the press in strengthening culture, democracy, and national resilience. The event was held at the Banten Provincial Government Center (KP3B) in Serang on Monday, 9 February 2026.

Under the theme “A Healthy Press, Sovereign Economy, Strong Nation,” the commemoration served as a platform to address challenges facing the media industry in the digital era. Discussions focused on sustaining credible journalism amid rapid technological change and shifting business models.

Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, emphasized that a healthy press ecosystem is essential to counter disinformation and safeguard public trust. He said strong journalism, economic independence, and national resilience are interconnected pillars supporting social stability.

“The theme reflects a strategic vision to strengthen Indonesia’s media ecosystem amid the rise of digital platforms and misinformation,” Fadli said. According to him, credible journalism remains a cornerstone of cultural advancement and democratic life.

Representing President Prabowo Subianto, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar expressed appreciation for Indonesian journalists. He stressed that society needs not only fast information, but also news that is accurate, ethical, and oriented toward the public interest.

Chairman of the Press Council, Komaruddin Hidayat, highlighted the evolving role of the press in modern society. He noted that journalism must continue to function as a responsible gatekeeper and a key instrument of public education.

The event was attended by senior government officials, media leaders, regional heads, and representatives of friendly nations. Their presence reflected Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening press freedom through cross-sector and international engagement.

For international audiences, the 2026 National Press Day illustrates how Indonesia envisions the press as a strategic partner in cultural diplomacy and nation-building.
