RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Evita Nursanty, emphasized that tourism in independent city developments holds strong potential to drive economic growth, provided policies are designed to support small-scale micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician pointed to Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 in Tangerang Regency, Banten, as an example where such policies have already been implemented. She noted that tourism should not only focus on creating destinations but also on building inclusive value chains.

“We wanted to see firsthand how the tourism ecosystem at PIK 2 operates. From both presentations and field visits, it is clear that the ecosystem is already functioning,” Evita said in a statement from Jakarta on Monday, February 9, 2026.

She explained that the area serves not only as a tourist destination but also as a hub for trade and commerce. “That is why the involvement of small-scale MSMEs must be expanded through business centers, partnerships, and continuous mentoring, so that local entrepreneurs can truly move up the ladder,” she added.

Evita acknowledged that MSMEs are already present in several parts of the independent city’s tourism zone, but the sector remains dominated by medium-sized enterprises. “MSMEs are there, but many are still mid-sized. Going forward, dedicated MSME centers must be established to ensure small businesses can genuinely grow,” she said.

As part of Indonesia’s National Strategic Projects (PSN), she stressed that independent city development must deliver direct benefits to local communities. “The facilities and incentives provided by the state for PSN projects must be felt directly by surrounding residents,” Evita asserted.

Agung Sedayu Group President Director, Nono Sampono, previously highlighted that the development of the area is aimed at generating economic benefits, particularly for nearby communities, through support for MSMEs and village cooperatives.

“The integration of conventional, sharia-based, and community-driven economic models is expected to complement one another while strengthening the foundation of the local economy,” Nono said. (Gusti Panji/Sri Wahyuni)
