RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - The 11th edition of the Fashion on the Street showcase emerged as the primary highlight of the annual Prawirotaman Festival, transforming the streets of Yogyakarta’s famous tourist district into a vibrant open-air runway from August 22 to 23, 2026.

Expanded for the first time across both Prawirotaman 1 and Prawirotaman 2, the street fashion show featured modern apparel, artisanal crafts, and youth-led designs. The event actively integrated international participation, with models and students from the Netherlands, Japan, and South Korea taking to the pavement alongside local creators.

Organized by the Yogyakarta City Administration to capitalize on the July–August peak travel season, the weekend festival also featured craft bazaars and culinary expos designed to boost international tourist arrivals to the city beyond the 316,000 foreign visits recorded at the end of 2025.

City tourism leads and festival curators emphasized that elevating localized, international-friendly events strengthens Yogyakarta's global branding while ensuring creative continuity among younger generations. Head of the Yogyakarta City Tourism Agency Lucia Daning Krisnawati detailed the strategic goals assigned by the city administration.

"The directive from the Mayor focuses on how we can effectively boost foreign tourist arrivals so that Yogyakarta remains a premier international destination, Prawirotaman Festival is officially enshrined in Yogyakarta’s Calendar of Events, with the clear expectation of attracting more international visitors year after year," Lucia said in Yogyakarta on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Fashion on the Street Initiator Lia Mustofa highlighted the collaborative and cross-cultural scope of this year's expanded showcase.

"We specifically engaged the younger generation as both designers and models to ensure creative sustainability, by expanding to Prawirotaman 2 and welcoming international participants from countries like the Netherlands, Japan, and Korea, the event reinforces Prawirotaman’s identity as an inclusive, global cultural space," Lia added. ***
