RRI.CO.ID, Makassar - Indonesian feature film Solata, Teman adalah Keluarga yang Kita Pilih (Solata: Friends Are Family We Choose) made its Middle Eastern debut at the 5th Jordan Children and Youth Film Festival in Amman on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Jordan and UNICEF, the festival runs from August 14 to 20, 2026. Released in November 2025, Solata tells the story of Angkasa, a volunteer teacher from Jakarta who travels to the remote mountain area of Ollon in Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi.
Facing a struggling distance-learning system, he meets six students named after Indonesian presidents: Karno, Harto, Wahid, Bambang, Mega, and Habibie. The screening in Jordan marks the film's third international festival milestone following entries in Bulgaria, including the Golden FEMI Film Festival in June 2026 where it received a Special Award for Cultural and Humanitarian Contribution.
The production team is currently preparing a second international screening tour across several European countries. Film directors and cultural diplomats highlighted that cross-border cinematic representation allows Indonesian stories on education and humanitarian values to transcend geographical and linguistic boundaries.
Director Ichwan Persada reflected on the unexpected global journey of the independent film despite modest domestic box office results.
"This film Solata has been screened in several Eastern European countries and has earned international awards as well and now returns to participate in a film festival in Jordan, we initially felt discouraged because the box office performance of Solata was not as large as expected. But it turns out God granted us a different grace. Our simple film could adventure to distant and unimaginable lands, crossing boundaries of different cultures and languages," Ichwan said from Makassar on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as quoted by Antara. ***
