RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Jogja Fashion Week (JFW) 2026 has officially opened under the theme Roots to Resonance, Beyond. The event was opened by Yogyakarta Deputy Governor, Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Aryo (KGPAA) Paku Alam X, at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) in Yogyakarta on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The event began with a fashion show, followed by an exhibition tour by KGPAA Paku Alam X alongside the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Yogyakarta Province. In his address, KGPAA Paku Alam X said that JFW is an annual event that records the development of creativity and the fashion industry in Yogyakarta.
“Yogyakarta grows from a culture that continues to move. Tradition here is not preserved as a frozen relic, but is passed down through practice, knowledge, skills, and the courage to create. In the world of fashion, that heritage takes new form through motifs, fibers, colors, designs, and stories that carry the traces of Yogyakarta’s identity,” he said.
According to him, the theme of JFW 2026, Roots to Resonance, Beyond, conveys a relevant message. Yogyakarta’s strength lies in its ability to transform cultural roots into authentic, high-quality works that are also adaptive to technology and capable of following changing public tastes.
He expressed hope that the event would become a meeting space between tradition and the future, creativity and professionalism, as well as local identity and global networks. “From Yogyakarta, let us prove that works deeply rooted can resonate ever farther,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Yogyakarta Provincial Industry and Trade Agency, Anton Raharja, conveyed that JFW is one of the efforts to realize Yogyakarta as a global fashion hub. This is also part of the Yogyakarta Provincial Governor’s mandate to increase fashion product exports abroad.
“This theme invites us to amplify inspiration from Yogyakarta’s noble cultural heritage and that of other regions, so it can spark fashion trends at local, regional, and international levels,” he said.
Anton expressed hope that Jogja Fashion Week would not only be a fashion event but also a momentum to strengthen the identity, creativity, and competitiveness of Yogyakarta’s fashion industry and surrounding areas.
“May JFW 2026 become one of the concrete steps toward realizing this aspiration, including opening opportunities for fashion industry players, designers, as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the fashion sector and its downstream industries. Thus, the fashion ecosystem in Yogyakarta Province can move up a class and penetrate the global market,” he said.
This year’s JFW will be held over four days, from August 13–16, 2026, at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC). Jogja Fashion Week was first held in 2006 at the Atrium Plaza Ambarrukmo in Yogyakarta.
The event was initiated by fashion designers from the Yogyakarta chapter of the Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs Association (APPMI), including Phillip Iswardono. They were inspired by Bali Fashion Week to elevate the significant potential of the local ethnic fashion industry. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
