RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Thousands of displaced Palestinians in Gaza received food assistance from Indonesia as the Indonesian National Zakat Agency (Baznas) distributed ready-to-eat meal packages as part of ongoing humanitarian support for communities affected by the crisis.
Baznas delivered 875 family-sized meal packages for approximately 3,500 displaced people in Gaza. The assistance was intended to help families facing difficulties in accessing basic food supplies amid the continuing humanitarian emergency.
Baznas Chairman Sodik Mudjahid said the distribution reflects Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestinians struggling to meet essential daily needs.
“The situation in Palestine remains deeply concerning. Even access to basic necessities is still very difficult, including in northern Gaza. Baznas hopes this assistance can help ease some of their burden,” Sodik said in a statement on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Each package consisted of a large tray of rice and a whole chicken, designed to feed a family of four. According to Baznas, ensuring access to food remains one of the most urgent priorities in the current humanitarian situation.
Sodik said the aid also represents the trust placed in Baznas by the Indonesian public through zakat, alms, and charitable donations, which are being directed to communities in need.
“Solidarity from the Indonesian people for Palestine is still very much needed. Every contribution entrusted to Baznas carries a responsibility to deliver the greatest possible benefit to those in need. That is why we continue striving to ensure aid reaches the intended recipients, including communities affected by the humanitarian crisis in Palestine,” he emphasized.
The food assistance was welcomed by displaced families, including children and elderly residents living in temporary shelters. One mother sheltering with her children expressed gratitude for the support from Indonesia.
“This food assistance is something we desperately need. You, the Indonesian people and Baznas, have brought happiness to our children. We currently have no source of income, but thank God you have not forgotten us,” she said.
Similar sentiments were shared by an elderly woman who has spent an extended period in displacement. “May God bless you, Baznas and the people of Indonesia, for providing this warm meal. I swear to Allah, our situation here is very difficult," she said.
"We hope this assistance can continue. We are elderly and unable to obtain medicine, food, or drinking water. There is no proper life here, and we have nothing at the moment,” she concluded.
The distribution forms part of Baznas’ broader humanitarian efforts in Palestine, where the agency continues to channel assistance from Indonesian donors to support civilians affected by the ongoing crisis. ***
