RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government held the annual Pancasila Sanctity Day national ceremony at the Pancasila Sanctity Monument in Jakarta on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the European Union (EU) in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, Marco Bonetti, admitted that he was happy to attend the event to show respect for Indonesia.
"I'm very happy to be here to represent the European Union. We are a great partner, and Indonesia is a great partner to us," Bonetti said as he spoke to the RRI Voice of Indonesia.
"So we want to show respect and come here and share with you this important day," he said.
Bonetti highlighted the core values of Indonesia's state principle, Pancasila, which includes belief in God, humanity, unity, democracy, and social justice. He said its values are important and similar to those the European Union believes in.
"And I think we also share with Indonesia an important motto. You have unity in diversity. We have unity in diversity. This is also very important for us," he said..
The Indonesian Ministry of Culture held the event to commemorate the failed September 30th Movement coup in 1995 and the importance of Pancasila in national life. The EU delegation was among the foreign dignitaries invited to the ceremony.
The 27-member EU has the official motto in Latin "In Varietate Concordia" which means "unity in diversity". It has a similar meaning to Indonesia's motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika", literally translated from Old Javanese as "it is different, (yet) it is one".
