RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) chairman Jusuf Kalla received a delegation led by Sheik Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, Grand Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, in Jakarta, on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026.
During the meeting, Kalla reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for Palestine, saying PMI would continue providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians regardless of political developments.
“PMI has a humanitarian mandate that cannot be compromised. Whatever the political situation, we will continue to stand with the Palestinian people,” Kalla said in a statement, as quoted by Antara.
He stressed that Indonesia’s solidarity with Palestine remains unwavering, with PMI committed to providing medical assistance, logistical support and psychosocial services to affected communities.
Kalla said the visit underscored that Indonesia’s support for Palestine extends beyond diplomatic statements and is reflected in ongoing humanitarian efforts.
“Indonesia will always stand with the Palestinian people. Through PMI, we will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and advocate for a just and lasting peace,” said Kalla, who previously served as Indonesia’s 10th and 12th vice president.
The meeting, held at Kalla’s residence, was also attended by Mahmoud Al-Habbash, special envoy and adviser to the President of Palestine, and Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattari, the Palestinian ambassador to Indonesia.
Ambassador Al-Habbash thanked Indonesia for its continued support, describing the country as a steadfast partner that has consistently advocated for Palestine in international forums.
As part of the visit, Kalla received a traditional Palestinian keffiyeh directly from Sheik Muhammad Ahmad Hussein.
The gesture symbolized respect and recognition of Indonesia’s role, particularly PMI’s efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza and other Palestinian territories. ***
