International Bodies Must Take Concrete Action on Gaza: Parliament

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Deputy Speaker of Indonesia's parliament People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nur Wahid, has called on international organizations, including the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), to take action and issue concrete rulings to stop what he described as Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people. He said such action would be in line with measures already taken by several countries.

"The steps taken by several countries are indeed in line with and legally grounded in the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. However, international organizations also need to issue stronger and more concrete decisions," he said in a press statement, as quoted by mpr.go.id in Jakarta on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

HNW further said that, based on various data, children and women accounted for a significant proportion of those killed in what he described as Israel’s genocidal crimes against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip from October 7, 2023, through August 2026. He said 34,480 Palestinian children had been killed, accounting for 45 percent of the total fatalities, while 15,324 women had been killed, accounting for 20 percent.

"The number of children killed in the Gaza Strip has even far exceeded the number of child victims in the Holocaust tragedy that befell Jews in Europe in the 1940s," he said.

Meanwhile, citing official figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, HNW said the overall death toll since the ceasefire was established had approached 74,000, while 174,914 people had been injured. "These crimes must be stopped immediately, and those responsible must face severe legal sanctions, so that further deaths and injuries caused by Israel’s terror and brutality do not occur," he said.

HNW added that, beyond the killing of civilians, he also accused Israel of repeatedly desecrating the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Most recently, he said, Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and illegal settlers entered the area of the Buraq Wall on the western side of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

"International decisions have already affirmed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is part of the cultural heritage of Muslims," he said.
