Sugiono to Attend 81st UN General Assembly, Representing President Prabowo

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Sugiono is scheduled to attend the High-Level Week (HLW) of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, next week to represent President Prabowo Subianto.

Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, said Foreign Minister Sugiono’s participation in the 81st UNGA HLW would convey several key messages from Indonesia, including strengthening multilateralism and inclusivity, as well as Indonesia’s commitment to world peace and support for Palestine.

“The main message, in general, that Indonesia will convey during the general debate is the importance of strengthening national and regional resilience to achieve global resilience,” Yvonne said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, 17 September 2026.

She said the 81st UNGA HLW carries the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation, A United Nations That Delivers For All.” Meanwhile, President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh has set six priorities for his presidency: peace and security, sustainable development, climate and environmental action, human rights, digital governance and artificial intelligence, as well as UN reform.

Yvonne said that on the sidelines of the event, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono would also attend other high-level meetings, including those of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and MIKTA. He is also scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings with partner countries.

“Foreign Minister Sugiono will also attend various other high-level meetings, such as MIKTA, the OIC, and other agendas,” she said.

In addition to conveying messages on strengthening multilateralism and world peace, Yvonne said Indonesia would also highlight its role as a bridge builder, UN reform, strengthening the Global South, and the country’s national development achievements.

Yvonne added that the Indonesian government would also host a diplomatic reception in New York as part of its campaign for Indonesia’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2029–2030 term.
