RRI.CO.ID, New Delhi - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized that BRICS has a strategic role in uniting and strengthening the voices of developing countries, or the Global South, in helping shape the future direction of the world. BRICS can serve as a platform to strengthen the position of developing countries in addressing various global challenges.
“BRICS can unite the voices of the Global South and strengthen them as we work together to shape the future,” Prabowo said during the open session of the 2026 BRICS Summit on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
President Prabowo also stressed the importance of international cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to people. He described the future that should be built together as an order in which resilience protects development, innovation creates greater opportunities, and sustainability ensures prosperity for both present and future generations.
At the forum, Prabowo also highlighted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He emphasized that Indonesia’s commitment to the agenda must continue and should not end when the year 2030 is reached.
Prabowo said the 2030 Agenda should not be viewed merely as a deadline for achieving development targets, but also as an instrument to help developing countries move toward a more equal position in the global system. Therefore, the Global South needs to be involved in shaping the direction of global development beyond 2030.
According to him, the voices of developing countries are needed not only to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda targets, but also to shape the next global development agenda.
“Therefore, it is only logical that the voice of the Global South must be heard, not only in accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, but also in determining the direction of development beyond it,” he said.
