Sudanese Minister Seeks to Establish Some Strategic Partnerships with Indonesia

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Sudanese Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Hassan Daoud Kabroun Kayan, paid an official visit to Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense in Jakarta on September 9, 2026. He was received by Indonesia's Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin with a military guard of honor.

The two defense ministers discussed opportunities to reinforce cooperation between their countries, particularly in the defense sector. “Our visit to Indonesia as the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Sudan, and our meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, are aimed at establishing cooperation in various fields, particularly in defense. We see Indonesia as a long-standing friendly country,” Sudanese Defense Minister Hassan said.

“We see Indonesia as a long-standing friend and have known and maintained close relations with Indonesia for many years. Therefore, going forward, we will develop many strategic programs between Indonesia and Sudan,” he conveyed to media.

Minister Hassan further said the two countries share many similarities, including religious and cultural ties. He also noted that Sudan has provided scholarships to Indonesian students and alumni who have studied at the International University of Africa in Sudan.

“The people of Sudan have great affection for the people of Indonesia and appreciate the many positive qualities of the Indonesian people. Therefore, we have come here to establish cooperation, so that the people of Sudan can directly benefit from it, while the Indonesian people can also gain direct benefits from cooperation between the two countries,” he said.

The Sudanese defense minister also highlighted the potential for cooperation in the economic and natural resources sectors.

“Sudan’s natural resources, the strengths and advantages we have in Sudan, and everything we possess that could be beneficial to Indonesia are areas in which we can cooperate. Such cooperation would bring benefits to Indonesia as well. At the same time, we have come here to see what we can gain from and learn from Indonesia’s strengths and positive experiences,” Hassan said.

The Minister also affirmed that Indonesia and Sudan have enjoyed a long-standing friendship and said the two countries would stand together in support of one another.

“Indonesia and Sudan are long-standing friendly countries. Therefore, anyone who is hostile toward Indonesia is an enemy of Sudan, and anyone who is hostile toward Sudan is an enemy of Indonesia. We will stand together for the common goodness,” he said.
