Malaysia Offers 10‑Year Passport Service for Citizens in Indonesia

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Malaysian citizens residing in Indonesia can now apply for the Malaysian International Passport (PMA) with a validity of up to 10 years, through the Immigration Office at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta.

The facility is intended for Malaysians living, working, or studying in Indonesia, allowing them to renew or obtain new passports without returning home.

“This service benefits Malaysians who reside, work, and pursue education in Indonesia, as they can obtain or renew passports directly here,” the Embassy stated on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

A symbolic handover of the new PMA was conducted by Malaysia’s Ambassador to Indonesia Dato’ Muzaffar Shah Mustafa on Monday, September 7, 2026. The new passport is available in two options: five years or 10 years.

A 10‑year passport costs RM350, while the five‑year version follows Malaysia’s Immigration Department fee schedule. The service is open to Malaysians holding valid KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) or KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit) issued by Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration.

Security features have been significantly upgraded, with the new PMA containing 94 security elements, up from 49 in the previous version. These include advanced printing technology, anti‑counterfeiting measures, layered visual security, forensic features, and internationally compliant materials to better protect identity and reduce risks of forgery.

Malaysia’s Immigration Department said the rollout of the new PMA in Jakarta is part of its broader modernization program, aimed at providing safer and more user‑friendly services for Malaysians abroad. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
