RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, arrived in Jakarta for a four-day visit to Indonesia. During this visit, she will witness firsthand how the Government of Indonesia, UNDP, and partners collaborate to foster sustainable and inclusive development.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is accompanied by Ms. Diana Janse, State Secretary to the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade.

Moving forward, Indonesia will continue to partner with UNDP to translate national priorities into scalable solutions and to mobilize the resources, partnerships, and knowledge needed to achieve sustainable and inclusive development." On the first day of her visit to Jakarta, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden visited the Eijkman Building, accompanied by Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, to learn about Indonesia’s Biomedical and Genome Science Initiative (BGSi). Led by the Ministry of Health, this national initiative aims to strengthen precision medicine-based healthcare services and enhance preparedness for disease outbreaks.
The UNDP supports this initiative by providing technical assistance for policy and regulatory development, strengthening infrastructure and healthcare workforce capacity, and helping facilities and health workers utilize genomic information to detect diseases earlier, determine treatments better suited to individual patients, and identify and respond to disease outbreaks more rapidly.
According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Friday, September 4, 2026, Genomic science can help healthcare services move toward earlier disease detection, treatments tailored to each patient's condition, and health planning backed by more accurate information. At the same time, the use of genomic science can strengthen Indonesia's ability to face future health threats.
To support this goal, Indonesia aims to sequence 400,000 genomes by 2030 through the National Genome Strategy 2026–2030. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden also had the opportunity to visit the National Monument (Monas)—a symbol of Indonesia's independence—as well as the Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral. At the Istiqlal Mosque, the Crown Princess was accompanied by the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, before proceeding to the Jakarta Cathedral located across the street.
The two houses of worship, connected by the "Tunnel of Friendship" (Terowongan Silaturahmi), serve as a powerful reflection of Indonesia's diversity, where various religions and traditions are part of daily life and differences coexist without dividing society.

Next, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will travel to Lombok. There, the Crown Princess will witness firsthand the efforts to conserve coral reefs and marine ecosystems, which are simultaneously creating new economic opportunities for coastal communities.
The program will also demonstrate how investment in conservation can yield dual benefits: environmental sustainability and improved community well-being through the strengthening of sustainable livelihoods in sectors such as sustainable tourism, fisheries, and other economic activities reliant on healthy marine ecosystems.
Lombok will also showcase another facet of Indonesia’s development: recovery from disaster. The Crown Princess will visit communities that, following the 2018 earthquake, have benefited from the construction of schools, health facilities, and other public infrastructure, alongside efforts to strengthen community resilience and enhance future livelihood opportunities.
The visits to Jakarta and Lombok highlight two distinct sides of the same development challenge: fostering human development that makes a tangible impact on daily life, while preserving the natural environment as the foundation for Indonesia’s future prosperity.
