RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Beyond trade and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) development, the latest meeting between the Jakarta Provincial Administration and Guangdong Province Governor Meng Fanli in Guangzhou, China, placed urban water management at the center of bilateral cooperation.
The discussion reflects Jakarta’s ongoing transformation agenda, where flood control and modern water services are seen as critical priorities for the capital’s future.
Jakarta Provincial Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and MSME Agency Head Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo said collaboration between regions should not only strengthen business ties but also enable knowledge transfer and technology exchange.
“Jakarta is entering a phase of urban water management transformation. Partnerships like this open opportunities for smart metering, service reliability, and reducing non‑revenue water losses,” she explained in an official statement on Saturday, 5 September 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The meeting, attended by Indonesian MSME Minister Maman Abdurrahman, ATTEC Chairman Budihardjo Iduansjah, and business delegates, also explored investment opportunities and MSME capacity building. Yet the emphasis on water infrastructure underscored Jakarta’s intent to leverage Guangdong’s experience in modern urban systems.
Jakarta officials expressed hope that cooperation could move beyond dialogue into concrete partnerships, including potential collaboration between Jakarta’s regional water utility (BUMD) and the Guangzhou Water Group. Such technical exchanges are expected to strengthen Jakarta’s resilience against flooding while improving service delivery for residents.
“Jakarta is open to collaborations that enhance capacity, technology, and competitiveness. What matters most is translating these ties into tangible benefits for our people and businesses,” Elisabeth concluded. ***
