RRI.CO.ID, North Carolina – Indonesia emphasized the importance of financial literacy and consumer protection in the digital age at the Second G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting (FMCBG) in Asheville, North Carolina, U.S., from August 31 to September 1, 2026. This strategic issue has garnered international attention amid the rise of cross-border cybercrime and the accelerating digital transformation of the financial sector.
The Indonesian delegation, led by Indonesia's Vice Minister of Finance, Juda Agung, voiced the need for strict oversight against the growing threat of digital fraud. This measure is considered crucial to ensure that the expansion of global financial access remains safe and inclusive for all segments of society.
The Indonesian government presented various domestic innovations already in place to systematically mitigate the impact of financial crime. One concrete measure highlighted was the establishment of the Anti-Scam Center to expedite the response to fraud and scam cases in the financial sector.
The increasingly complex threat of cybercrime requires global coordination, as perpetrators often operate across national borders. Therefore, Indonesia is promoting stronger international partnerships to accelerate the exchange of information among countries.
“The advancement of digitalization must be balanced with efforts to strengthen financial literacy and consumer protection. Given that fraud and scams are becoming increasingly complex and cross-border in nature, stronger international cooperation, information sharing, and coordination among nations are essential,” the Vice Minister of Finance stated.
This multilateral cooperation is seen as the key to maintaining stability and public confidence in the digital financial system. Indonesia is fully committed to supporting the alignment between the priorities of the G20 forum and the work of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
This ongoing synergy is expected to close the gaps in combating high-tech financial crimes on the global stage. Through these decisive measures, the integrity of the global financial markets can be sustainably maintained.
