Prabowo Expected to Secure Agreements with Russia While Attending the 11th EEF

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto departed for Vladivostok, Russia, on Tuesday September 1, 2026, to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) as the principal guest of honor. The EEF is an annual economic forum organized by Russia to stimulate investment in the country's Far East region.

Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergey Tolchenov, explained that the forum, held under the auspices of President Vladimir Putin, would span four days—from September 1 to 4—featuring a packed schedule of events and discussion sessions. Putin is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, while Prabowo will attend as the guest of honor for this year's event.

He expressed hope that the meeting between the two heads of state would yield agreements that further strengthen the partnership between the two nations. He noted that this would mark the fifth meeting between President Prabowo and President Putin within the last two years.

Tolchenov added that they anticipate bilateral talks taking place on the sidelines of the forum, although details regarding other official agenda items would be released by the Russian Presidential Administration. "Please follow official announcements of the administration of the Russian president. They will inform about all these things," he said.

In addition to the official delegation accompanying President Prabowo, Tolchenov mentioned that other representatives from Indonesia are scheduled to attend the forum, including a delegation from Aceh; members of this group are slated to speak in sessions focused on Asia-Pacific regional development.

Tolchenov also revealed that a large delegation from Kadin (the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) is scheduled to be present in Vladivostok. The attendance of this business delegation is expected to create opportunities for business meetings and business-to-business (B2B) discussions on the sidelines of the forum.

With a packed agenda spanning the four-day event, Tolchenov hopes the forum will serve as more than just a ceremonial occasion, yielding instead practical discussions on the implementation of various agreements previously established between Indonesia and Russia.

In an official statement, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya conveyed that President Prabowo’s visit to Vladivostok would be utilized to foster increasingly concrete and mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in the fields of the economy, trade, investment, and energy.
