Indonesia-Philippines Strengthen Cooperation on ASEAN Creative Economy

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Creative Economy Minister and Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) Teuku Riefky Harsya hosted Ambassador of Philippines to Indonesia Christopher B. Montero at the Ministry Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, to discuss mapping creative potential, optimizing existing Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), and preparing for the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026.
The meeting highlighted ongoing cross-border initiatives, including the Batik-Barong collaboration launched in Manila in March 2026, as well as joint data modeling projects with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Indonesia reaffirmed its support for the Philippines' initiative as ASEAN Chair 2026 to establish the ASEAN Center of Excellence for Creative Industries (ACE-CI) in Manila.
During the courtesy call, Minister Teuku Riefky officially extended an invitation to the Philippine delegation to attend WCCE 2026, scheduled for October 21–23, 2026, at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) Kemayoran, while also opening discussions for the Philippines to potentially host WCCE 2028.
Government ministers and diplomatic representatives emphasized that cross-border talent integration and institutional collaboration are essential for advancing ASEAN's creative industries globally.
Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya commended the Philippines' leadership in ASEAN and expressed optimism regarding joint talent initiatives.
"We greatly appreciate the Philippines' leadership in ASEAN this year and its various initiatives to strengthen the regional creative economy, as fellow Southeast Asian nations, we share many cultural commonalities and complementary strengths. I hope we can deepen the collaboration between Indonesian and Philippine creative talents to generate new initiatives that bring mutual benefits to both countries," Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya stated during the meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as quoted on Ministry's official website.
Ambassador of the Philippines to Indonesia Christopher B. Montero highlighted the opportunity to exchange institutional knowledge and advance concrete partnerships.
"We look forward to identifying more collaboration opportunities and developing concrete programs to jointly advance the creative economies of both nations, Indonesia's dedicated institutional model for the creative economy provides valuable insights as we leverage our existing MoU to expand market access and pop-up exhibitions across the region," Ambassador Christopher B.
