Indonesia Festival 2026 Enhances Cultural Diplomacy

RRI.CO.ID, Vancouver - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Vancouver successfully hosted the Indonesia Festival 2026 on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Showcasing Indonesia's rich culture, cuisine, creativity, and products in the heart of Vancouver, the festival served as a vital platform for Indonesia's public diplomacy and a means to strengthen people-to-people ties between Indonesia and Canada.

The Indonesia Festival 2026 was attended by Anne Kang, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport of British Columbia, and Parliamentary Secretary Paul Choi, who were present as guests of honor. Their attendance reflected the British Columbia government's strong support for and appreciation of the Indonesian community's contributions, as well as the importance of the relationship between Indonesia and British Columbia.

Representatives from the ASEAN Consulates General in Vancouver (ACGV) also attended and participated in the festival's activities. The presence of these ASEAN consular representatives further reinforced the spirit of friendship and regional cooperation in Vancouver.

Indonesian Consul General in Vancouver, Nina Kurnia Widhi, stated that the Indonesia Festival is not merely a cultural celebration but part of Indonesia's diplomacy to build understanding, foster closer ties, and establish new networks with the Canadian public.

“The Indonesia Festival serves as a bridge connecting Indonesia and Canada through culture, cuisine, creativity, and a spirit of togetherness. Through this festival, we aim to showcase Indonesia as a nation rich in culture and tradition, as well as a dynamic partner offering numerous opportunities for collaboration with Canada.” Consulat General said.

In a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Thursday, August 27, 2026, a major highlight of the Indonesia Festival 2026 is the participation of 25 food vendors serving a wide array of authentic Indonesian cuisine. Ranging from traditional fare to popular dishes from across the archipelago, these vendors offer Vancouver residents the chance to experience and discover the richness of Indonesian flavors firsthand.

Thus, the Indonesia Festival serves not only as a cultural showcase, but also as a platform for promoting Indonesia's economy and MSMEs. It is hoped that public interest in Indonesian cuisine and culture will evolve into an interest in Indonesian products, tourism, the creative economy, and opportunities for trade and investment.

Throughout the festival, visitors were treated to a variety of Indonesian arts and cultural performances showcasing the diversity of the archipelago.
