Russia Signals Potential Deals With Indonesia at EEF

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergey Tolchenov, revealed potentials of contracts to be signed at the upcoming 2026 Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia in early September. However, the specific areas of cooperation will be announced after agreements are signed.

“Probably some contracts will be signed in Vladivostok on the sidelines of this Eastern Economic Forum, but it will be announced after the signing of the agreement,” he said during a media briefing by the Russian Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The Eastern Economic Forum is an annual global event in Vladivostok intended to attract investment to Russia's Far East region. Ambassador Tolchenov said his country have sent "a lot" of invitations to Indonesians, including high-ranking leaders.

"So we expect to have high-ranking Indonesian delegation in this forum, and we hope for productive contacts and discussions how to promote further our bilateral cooperation with Indonesia, mostly in economic, investment, and trade," he said.

Regarding the potential agreement, Tolchenov said that Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto and his counterpart Vladimir Putin have regular contacts. He said informations will be announced by the end of this week, and the two countries will officially announce if "something will happen".

"I hope that we (Indonesia and Russia) will manage to finalize, and something will happen in Vladivostok. Please wait a little bit, so please be patient," he said.

Prabowo and Putin was last met in Moscow, Russia on April 2026. They discussed cooperation in various things, including energy, space, and, pharmaceuticals.
