RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and China have agreed to strengthen trade and investment cooperation and expand market access for Indonesia’s leading commodities through the Indonesia-China Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue in Jakarta on Friday, August 21, 2026. Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, said the two countries had agreed to revitalize several strategic mechanisms across various areas of cooperation while exploring new mechanisms to strengthen bilateral ties.
"Indonesia and China have agreed to revitalize strategic mechanisms in trade, energy, minerals, and maritime affairs while exploring new mechanisms, including in quarantine and artificial intelligence," Sugiono said in a joint press statement following the meeting.
The Minister also said both sides also welcomed discussions on the 2027–2031 Action Plan as a continuation of the 2022–2026 Action Plan. He said strengthening economic cooperation was one of the key agendas of the meeting, including through increased trade and investment.
Sugiono said the current trade value between Indonesia and China had reached around 167 billion US dollars. However, he noted that the figure had yet to reflect the full economic potential of the two countries.
"We continue to appreciate China's commitment to Indonesia's economic development through increased trade and investment," he said.
To maximize this potential, Indonesia and China will develop cooperation in several areas, including advanced technology and artificial intelligence, strengthen maritime cooperation, and enhance people-to-people ties.
Meanwhile, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, said China-Indonesia cooperation had developed rapidly under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto and played an important role among developing countries. According to him, the outcome of the meeting would provide important support for deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries and building the China-Indonesia community.
"We agreed to uphold strategic autonomy, firmly support each other's core interests, and enhance coordination on development and security," Wang Yi said.
He added that China-Indonesia cooperation would provide strong support for the modernization of both countries. Wang also said China and Indonesia had decided to launch a Five-Year Action Plan for China-Indonesia cooperation, to be implemented from 2027 to 2030.
