RRI.CO.ID, Bogor – The visit of ambassadors and representatives from MIKTA member countries--Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia--to the Indonesian Peacekeeping Mission Center (PMPP TNI) in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, on Friday, August 21, 2026, carried a strong message of solidarity and global responsibility.

The delegation’s presence followed the tragic loss of Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) earlier this year.

In response, MIKTA foreign ministers had issued a joint statement condemning the attack and reaffirming that assaults on UN peacekeepers and humanitarian workers are unacceptable and violate international law.

During the ceremony, MIKTA representatives paid tribute to the fallen personnel and observed pre-deployment training for Indonesian peacekeepers. Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Rod Brazier highlighted the broader significance of their role.

“Peacekeepers and humanitarian workers play a vital role in protecting civilians and fostering stability. Today, we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice peacekeepers make in increasingly complex security environments,” Rod Brazier said, as quoted on the official website of the Australian Embassy to Indonesia on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Indonesian diplomat Denny Abdi, who servws as Secretary-General and Acting Director General for Multilateral Cooperation, stressed that safeguarding peacekeepers is non-negotiable.

"Attacks against them are attacks against the very principles of international humanitarian law that the international community has pledged to uphold,” he said.

He added that MIKTA’s practical cooperation is essential to translating political commitments into operational steps, thereby strengthening trust in multilateral institutions and advancing global governance reform.

As current chair of MIKTA, Australia is working with partner countries to promote humanitarian principles and reinforce the global humanitarian system. The grouping, made up of influential middle powers, continues to position itself as a bridgebuilder in international diplomacy. ***
