Minister Sjafrie Welcomes Admiral Dong Jun with a Military Guard of Honor Ceremony

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin received a courtesy call from the Minister of Defense of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Admiral Dong Jun, at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta, Friday, August 21, 2026. Dong Jun was welcomed with a military guard of honor ceremony.

Prior to the military guard of honor ceremony, the national anthems of both countries were played. Following the ceremony, Minister Sjafrie and Minister Dong Jun inspected the troops. During the inspection, the two ministers also paid their respects to the flags of both countries.

Both Ministers then held a closed-door bilateral meeting. Minister Dong Jun’s visit to Indonesia is held in connection with the 2nd 2+2 Meeting and the 2026 Indonesia–China Bilateral Meeting. The visit also reflects Indonesia’s defense diplomacy approach, which is built not only through formal meetings, but also through personal interactions and cultural engagement.

Minister Sjafrie said that defense relations between Indonesia and China have been ongoing for nearly two decades since the two countries agreed on a Defense Cooperation Agreement. He said that the relationship has continued in a cordial manner and would be further strengthened in the future.

“Relations between Indonesia and China have been very cordial, and we are committed to enhancing this cooperation,” Sjafrie conveyed during a joint statement at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Building at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta, Friday, August 21, 2026.

Minister Sjafrie also mentioned that strengthening defense cooperation will not only cover material and defense equipment cooperation, but also include enhancing the capabilities of military personnel.The meeting aimed to further develop defense cooperation between Indonesia and China.

Meanwhile, China’s Minister of Defense, Admiral Dong Jun, said that defense cooperation between China and Indonesia has changed significantly compared with the past, both in terms of its depth and scope. According to Dong, the two countries have achieved fruitful results across various fields and at all levels.

“Minister Sjafrie and I will continue to maintain close communication, set the direction, and formulate measures to further deepen our cooperation. It can be said that cooperation between the two countries has broad prospects, with its quality and efficiency continuing to improve,” Dong said.
