RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day drew warm messages from five nations -- United States, Egypt, Germany, Poland, and Switzerland -- reflecting both historical ties and contemporary partnerships.
Egypt underscored its unique role as the first country to recognize Indonesia’s independence, while others highlighted decades of cooperation and shared aspirations for peace and prosperity.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed greetings through the Embassy’s X account in Jakarta, emphasizing the enduring partnership rooted in democratic governance and a shared vision of a free and open Indo‑Pacific.
Several ambassadors also used their official embassy social media channels to extend congratulations on Monday, August 17, 2026, Antara reported.
Egypt’s Ambassador Yasser Hassan Faraq Elshemy expressed pride in the historic bond between the two nations, recalling Egypt’s recognition of Indonesia’s independence -- de facto in March 1946 and de jure in June 1947. He reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to strengthening strategic ties and expanding cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
German Ambassador Ralf Beste highlighted 74 years of bilateral relations built on respect, trust, and mutual prosperity. “We value this friendship and believe cooperation will continue to grow for the advancement of both nations,” he noted, adding that the spirit of independence should inspire Indonesia’s role in global peace and prosperity.
Poland’s Ambassador Barbara Szymanowska invited Indonesians to celebrate both historical achievements and a hopeful future, expressing her wish for closer friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Switzerland’s Ambassador Konstantin Obolensky, newly arrived in Jakarta, remarked on the warmth and spirit he has already experienced in Indonesia. He pointed out that this year also marks 75 years of Indonesia–Swiss partnership, describing it as a remarkable journey and expressing hope for continued growth in the years ahead.
With the theme “Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil dan Makmur” (Indonesia Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous), the nation’s 81st Independence Day not only commemorated its historic struggle but also reaffirmed its place in the global community -- where partners old and new continue to recognize Indonesia’s achievements and future potential. ***
