RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Foreign visitors in Bali enthusiastically joined locals in commemorating Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, watching the flag‑raising ceremony at Niti Mandala Renon Field, Denpasar, on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Around 10 tourists mingled at the edge of the field, some with families and children, capturing the moment on their phones. Among them was Keiran (31) from the UK, who walked from his hotel to experience the atmosphere firsthand.
“I wanted to feel what people here do on such a historic day. It’s a big event, and I’m glad to witness it," said Keiran, who wore a red shirt and white trousers, as quoted by Antara.
Keiran, traveling across Indonesia from Bukittinggi to Bali and Lombok, praised the discipline of Bali’s Paskibraka parade and the strong sense of nationalism among locals, despite the scorching sun. “Even though I’m not Indonesian, I felt proud. The parade was excellent, everyone worked together seamlessly,” he said.
Governor Wayan Koster welcomed the spontaneous participation of foreign tourists, noting it added value to Bali’s tourism appeal. The provincial administration had also invited representatives of friendly nations to attend officially.
The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali encouraged hotels to hold flag ceremonies, allowing guests to join. Many tourists participated in flag‑raising events and traditional games organized by hotel management.
“This 81st anniversary is special, and tourists admire the celebrations,” said PHRI Bali Deputy Chair I Gusti Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya.
The presence of foreign visitors underscored how Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations in Bali have become not only a patriotic occasion but also a cultural attraction that bridges communities. ***
