RRI.CO.iD, Jakarta - Indonesia’s potential in developing artificial intelligence (AI) was evident as Indonesian students won four medals at the 2026 International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from August 2–8, 2026.

The Indonesian team secured one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal at the competition, which featured around 500 top participants from 106 countries.

Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, M. Fadjroel Rachman, said the achievement demonstrates that Indonesia’s young generation is capable of mastering cutting‑edge technology, particularly AI.

“Indonesia won one gold, two silver, and one bronze at the International Olympiad of Artificial Intelligence. This is extraordinary and a gift for Indonesia’s 81st anniversary,” Fadjroel said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Luvidi Pranawa Alghari from private high school SMA Pribadi Beji won the gold medal. Silver medals were awarded to Matthew Hutama Pramana from private high school SMA Kolese Loyola Semarang and Nicholas Ardi Tirta from private high school SMA Santa Laurensia Alam Sutera. Avner Maxwell Lim from private school Bina Tunas Bangsa School Pluit earned the bronze medal.

The four students were accompanied by two mentors from the University of Indonesia: Dr. Muhammad Febrian Rachmadi, the team leader, and Dr. Adila Alfa Krisnadhi, the deputy team leader and observer.

According to Fadjroel, these achievements highlight Indonesia’s human resources’ potential to compete in global digital technology development.

He hopes the students’ success at IOAI 2026 will inspire more young Indonesians to strengthen their science and technology skills, especially in AI. “AI is the main driver of the nation’s future,” he said.

He also noted that Indonesia’s success underscores the importance of strengthening collaboration in higher education and technological research, particularly with Kazakhstan.

Cooperation between Indonesia and Kazakhstan in AI and digital technology continues to grow through delegation exchanges, the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology’s participation in the international Digital Bridge meeting, and a visit to Nazarbayev University.

Indonesia also sent two delegates to join the third Game of the Future in Astana in 2026.

A memorandum of understanding between the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology and the Kazakhstani Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology is reportedly in its final stages.

The IOAI is an international science olympiad designed to develop and attract young talent in artificial intelligence. ***
