RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is making its debut at the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) 2026, marking a milestone in the country's efforts to develop young talent in science and strengthen its presence in international academic competitions.

Two students from state-run Islamic senior high school MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong, Faris Patria Chariansyah and Hilmy Lazuardhy Nurramadhan, have been selected as Indonesia's first representatives for the competition, which will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Principal Hilal Najmi confirmed on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, that Faris and Hilmy were selected after going through a selection process among National Science Olympiad (OSN) medalists in physics and chemistry organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

"This is the first time Indonesia has sent delegates to the INSO," Hilal said, as quoted on the Religious Affairs Ministry's official website.

Hilal said the school supported the students throughout their preparation by providing administrative assistance and moral support. The students also attended several weeks of intensive training organized by BRIN's Nuclear Polytechnic in Yogyakarta.

"The school provided moral support and handled the administrative requirements needed for the students to participate in every stage leading to the competition," he said, adding that the school continues to foster a culture of achievement among students by encouraging them through the success stories of previous alumni.

INSO 2026 in Jeddah, held from August 2-9, is a landmark event for nuclear science education, bringing together young talents from 19 countries to compete, collaborate, and showcase innovations in peaceful nuclear applications. It highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing role in global science diplomacy and education.

Indonesia sends four students to INSO 2026. The other two students are Gusti Komang Abhika and Aloysius Gonzaga Duta Setiawan from Kesatuan Bangsa senior high school. ***
