Indonesian President, Thai PM Launch New Direct Flights to Boost Tourism Ties

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the launch of new direct flight routes connecting Jakarta–Bangkok and Denpasar–Phuket, expressing hope that enhanced connectivity will boost tourism between Indonesia and Thailand.

“We welcome the opening of these new direct routes. It is expected to further strengthen ties between the people of both nations,” President Prabowo said during a joint press conference with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, August 3, 2026.

President Prabowo also welcomed the signing of a tourism cooperation memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and TransNusa Airlines.

Prime Minister Anutin praised the growing partnership, noting tourism as a key area of collaboration. He highlighted Indonesia’s investment in Thailand’s aviation sector, citing Lion Air as a success story.

“We wish to acknowledge Indonesia’s investment in our country. Lion Air stands as one of the success stories of Indonesian investment in Thailand’s aviation industry,” PM Anutin said.

He also expressed gratitude for the warm reception in Jakarta, from his arrival at the airport to the official welcome at Merdeka Palace. “I have never received such an honor in a state visit. You made me feel unsure whether I could match even half of the grandeur when welcoming you in Thailand,” PM Anutin remarked. (Misni Parjiati)
