RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia, Yoon Soon-gu, to discuss strengthening creative economy cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, both sides discussed the establishment of a High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee and the preparation of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a framework for creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea.
“Indonesia and the Republic of Korea share a common vision of positioning the creative economy as a new engine of economic growth. South Korea’s remarkable success through the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, serves as both an inspiration and a catalyst for broader collaboration,” Riefky said.
According to the minister, the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two countries has opened up opportunities for cooperation in various fields, ranging from co-productions and talent exchanges to digital game development and other technology-driven initiatives that could benefit the creative industries of both countries.
The meeting followed the engagement between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung on March 31, 2026, which elevated bilateral relations to a Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Teuku Riefky said the Ministry of Creative Economy is currently accelerating the preparation of a new MoU that will serve as the foundation for creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea while facilitating various cross-subsector collaborations in the future.
Through the MoU, the two countries will also establish a High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee, which will be jointly chaired by the Minister of Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea.
“We hope that the opportunities emerging from this partnership can be translated into concrete programs that provide tangible benefits for creative industry stakeholders in both countries,” he said.
On the occasion, the minister also invited the South Korean government and creative industry players to participate in the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, which will be held in Jakarta in October.
Meanwhile, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia, Yoon Soon-gu, welcomed efforts to strengthen creative economy cooperation between the two countries. According to him, Indonesia and the Republic of Korea have significant potential to expand collaboration through programs that directly benefit creative industry players.
“We see tremendous opportunities for cooperation with Indonesia, ranging from film and content development to talent and expert training, as well as regular business meetings,” Yoon Soon-gu said.
