RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Commemorating Kartini Day, Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Deputy Minister Christina Aryani called on women -- especially migrant workers -- to carry forward Kartini’s spirit of resilience in navigating today’s global challenges.

“Today, Kartini’s spirit is not only about emancipation, but also about the courage to adapt in a global and digital era,” Christina said in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Kartini Day is celebrated in Indonesia every year on April 21 to honor Raden Ajeng Kartini, a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and education. It symbolizes the struggle for gender equality and remains a national day of reflection on women’s empowerment.

Christina described Indonesian migrant women as the modern-day Kartinis: individuals who seize opportunities, build capacity, and contribute to both family and nation. Beyond being breadwinners, she emphasized, they are agents of change with economic and social impact on their communities.

She acknowledged the risks migrant women face, from exploitation to limited access to information, and stressed that the state must ensure protection, accurate information, and adequate support.

The ministry continues to strengthen technology-based safeguards, including the SiskoP2MI digital system, which provides information services, complaint channels, and rapid response for Indonesian workers abroad.

SiskoP2MI is Indonesia’s official digital system for the placement and protection of migrant workers, providing verified job listings, status checks, and complaint services to ensure safe overseas employment.

Christina urged that Kartini Day serve as a reminder of the importance of collaboration between government, society, and education sectors in building an ecosystem that empowers and protects Indonesian women.

“Migrant women are symbols of Indonesia’s resilience. With Kartini’s spirit, let us ensure they not only depart to work, but also return with success, experience, and a brighter future,” Christina concluded. ***
