RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Two vessels operated by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) -- Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro -- are preparing to cross the Strait of Hormuz after Iran reopened the vital maritime trade route.
PIS Acting Corporate Secretary Vega Pita stated that the company is closely monitoring the situation and has prepared a safe passage plan to ensure the ships can navigate the strait securely.
“Our strategy includes route planning, risk identification, electronic navigation, and contingency measures,” Vega explained in an official statement released by the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom RI) on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Pertamina is also coordinating with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to maintain communication with Iranian authorities, while engaging with insurers, ship managers, cargo owners, and local officials to ensure all licensing procedures are fulfilled.
Vega emphasized that the company’s top priority is the safety of crew members, as well as the security of the vessels and their cargo.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources spokesperson Dwi Anggia noted that negotiations with Iran have been intensive, with positive signals indicating that Indonesian vessels will be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
“We hope shipping operations will gradually return to normal as the route reopens. The government will continue coordinating with stakeholders to safeguard domestic energy distribution,” Anggia said. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
