RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Bali police have named a Swiss citizen, Luzian Andrin Zgraggen, as a suspect in a case involving alleged insults against Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu Day of Silence, following a controversial social media post that sparked public outrage.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Ariasandy said on Monday, March 23, 2026, in Denpasar that the case was uncovered by the Cyber Directorate of Bali Police between March 20 and 21, 2026, after officers detected the post during routine online patrols. The content, uploaded to the Instagram account @luzzysun, was deemed derogatory toward the sacred Hindu holiday.

Investigators identified the account owner as Zgraggen and tracked his movements from Kuta to Ubud, eventually locating him at the residence of Ni Luh Djelantik in Tumbak Bayuh, Mengwi, Badung. At Djelantik’s request, the foreign national was escorted to Bali Police headquarters for questioning.

On March 21, Djelantik formally filed a police report, after which investigators escalated the case to a criminal probe. Zgraggen was arrested later that day, interrogated, and subsequently detained at Bali Police’s detention center.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is charged under Article 301(1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (Law No. 1/2023), which prohibits the dissemination of content containing religious hatred via information technology. The Police stated that the legal elements of the offense -- including subject, medium, and content -- were met.

The investigation continues, with police issuing a formal notification of the probe, seizing the suspect’s mobile phone as evidence, and questioning witnesses to strengthen the case. ***
