RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto has called for continued improvements in the quality of healthcare services for participants of the Health Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan), including shorter waiting times and equal treatment for all patients at hospitals.
Health Minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the directive was conveyed by Prabowo during a limited meeting on BPJS Kesehatan services at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 28, 2026.
According to the Minister, the President asked BPJS Kesehatan participants to receive proper treatment when accessing healthcare services. Hospitals were also urged to provide equal services to BPJS Kesehatan and non-BPJS patients.
“When BPJS Kesehatan patients come in, they should also receive proper treatment. We must also ensure that all hospitals do not discriminate between BPJS patients and non-BPJS patients,” Budi said.
In addition to waiting times and equal treatment, Budi said improving service quality is also closely linked to BPJS Kesehatan's financial condition. He said the agency needs to maintain healthy cash flow to ensure that claims to hospitals can be paid smoothly.
The funding issue has begun to be addressed after the Ministry of Finance approved the disbursement of Rp20 trillion for BPJS Kesehatan. The funds will be used to cover the cash flow gap between participants' premium contributions and benefit payments.
Finance Minister, Suahasil Nazara, said the funds are intended to ensure that BPJS Kesehatan can meet its financial obligations to hospitals smoothly. The funds will be disbursed in two stages, with Rp10 trillion in October and another Rp10 trillion in November.
“This will ensure that BPJS' finances are properly covered,” Suahasil expressed.
