RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is committed to enhancing the role of regional governments, down to the village level, in accelerating the elimination of tuberculosis (TB) in Indonesia. At the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day Media Meeting held in Jakarta, Monday, April 6, 2026, Vice Minister of Home Affairs, Akhmad Wiyagus, stated that regional governments have a strategic role in coordinating cross-sectoral TB control.

"Regional governments are the primary drivers in coordinating tuberculosis control down to the village and sub-district levels," he said.

According to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, of the 84,276 villages in Indonesia, only 5,711 have established TB Alert Villages/Sub-districts, spread across 22 provinces and 108 regencies/cities.

The TB Alert Village/Sub-district program is considered strategic in actively detecting cases, improving public education, and accompanying patients to complete treatment.

"Villages and sub-districts are at the forefront of identifying cases, supporting patients, and mobilizing the community to fight TB together," Akhmad said.

Meanwhile, Vice Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Benjamin Paulus Octavianus, added that successful tuberculosis elimination requires cross-sector synergy, including the involvement of the community, health workers, the business world, and the media.

"The media plays a crucial role in encouraging the public to get tested and complete treatment," Benjamin conveyed.

The government ensures that services for TB suspects are part of the Minimum Service Standards (SPM), which must be met by all local governments. By strengthening the role of villages and cross-sector collaboration, it is hoped that TB elimination in Indonesia can be achieved more quickly and comprehensively.
