Joint Team Works to Extinguish Galuga Landfill Fire

RRI.CO.ID, Bogor – A joint team is continuing efforts to extinguish a land fire that spread to the Galuga Final Waste Processing Site (TPA Galuga) in Galuga Village, Cibungbulang District, Bogor Regency, West Java.The fire broke out on Monday at around 4 p.m. local time. Based on a report from the Bogor Regency BPBD Operations Control Center, the affected area is estimated at approximately 42 hectares. The data is still being further assessed.

According to an official statement, as of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 11:58 p.m. local time, firefighting efforts were still underway to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. No casualties were reported.

The firefighting operation involves a joint team comprising the Bogor Regency Government, Bogor City Government, the Bogor Regency and Bogor City Regional Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD), the Bogor Regency and Bogor City Fire and Rescue Services, the Bogor Regency 112 emergency service, Bogor City Disaster Preparedness Youth (Tagana), the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM), the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Indonesian Police (Polri), the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and volunteers.

At the scene, the Bogor Regency BPBD has been monitoring the situation and coordinating with local village officials. The team has also been conducting firefighting operations while supplying water to support the operation.

To accelerate the response, the team deployed two sets of firefighting equipment, one generator unit, and four water tanker trucks. The effort was also reinforced by water-bombing support from the Indonesian Air Force's Atang Sendjaja Air Base.

The Bogor Regent and Bogor Mayor also inspected the fire site to directly monitor the response carried out by the joint team.

The fire is being handled amid the emergency alert status for drought and forest and land fires in West Java and Bogor Regency. The status is in effect from July 1 to September 30, 2026.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has urged the public to refrain from activities that could trigger fires, particularly open burning of land. Residents are also encouraged to immediately report any fire hotspots or conditions that could potentially cause fires to authorities or local governments.
