Police Respond To Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption Impact

RRI.CO.ID. JAKARTA – The Indonesian National Police moved quickly to provide public services following the impact of volcanic material from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, which was felt in several areas on Monday, 7 September 2026. A series of services were carried out by Police units, including spraying roads affected by volcanic ash deposits using Armoured Water Cannons, distributing masks, preparing health services, and deploying SAR personnel and Sabhara patrols. These steps aim to help communities deal with the effects of the eruption, especially by reducing volcanic ash deposits that could be blown back into the air by vehicle activity and disrupt public safety and comfort.

Services were provided in several regions, including Lampung, Banten, Jakarta and surrounding areas, as well as parts of West Java. The Police continue to adjust their response measures based on developments in the field. In Bandar Lampung, the Lampung Regional Police Samapta Directorate deployed 1 Armoured Water Cannon, 1 forest fire response vehicle, and 2 escort/patrol vehicles to spray several key roads, including Jl. ZA Pagar Alam, Jl. Teuku Umar, Jl. Raden Intan, Jl. Ahmad Yani, and Jl. Jenderal Sudirman. In addition to spraying, the Lampung Police also strengthened health mitigation efforts by distributing masks to the public. Personnel from Bandar Lampung City Police together with Bhayangkari (police wives association) directly distributed masks to riders at Tugu Adipura.

Mask distribution was also carried out by the North Lampung Police to the public and road users in the Tugu Payan Mas area, Kotabumi. This was part of efforts to protect people from potential exposure to volcanic ash while conducting outdoor activities. Meanwhile, the Lampung Regional Police Health Division prepared health mitigation measures, including medical team readiness, health service coordination, evacuation if needed, and referral health facilities. In the Banten Regional Police jurisdiction, an integrated response was carried out by deploying 6 Armoured Water Cannons supported by 4 four-wheel escort/patrol vehicles and 2 two-wheel escort/patrol vehicles.

Spraying was conducted by District and City Police at several priority points. Pandeglang Police sprayed Jl. Bhayangkara and the area around Pandeglang Town Square. Cilegon Police focused on Jl. Jenderal Sudirman–Bank BJB Cilegon and PCI Cilegon Intersection. Serang City Police conducted spraying on Jl. Protokol Ahmad Yani. Lebak Police focused on Jl. RA Kartini, Jl. Iko Jatmiko, Rangkasbitung Town Square, Balong Ranca Lentah, Jl. Insinyur Juanda, and Jl. Siliwangi. Serang Police sprayed the Arteri–Tangerang route, while Tangerang City Police did the same on protocol roads and Jl. Pemda, Tangerang Regency. The spraying aimed to reduce volcanic dust deposits on roads and support road safety while ensuring smooth traffic flow.

In Jakarta, South Tangerang, and Bekasi Regency, the Metro Jaya Regional Police deployed Armoured Water Cannons with a 6,000-liter capacity to wash down several roads. Locations included Patung Kuda–Bank Indonesia–Sarinah–Bundaran HI, Cipinang–Rawamangun–Pulogadung, Jl. RE Martadinata, Jl. Pondok Cabe Raya, and Jl. Raya Tegal Danas, Central Cikarang. In addition to spraying, Metro Jaya Mobile Brigade personnel also distributed masks to the public as a precaution against volcanic ash exposure. In West Java, Bogor Police deployed water cannon vehicles to clean volcanic ash deposits on roads while also distributing masks to the public and road users. Cianjur Police distributed around 2,000 medical masks to road users as part of their service to reduce the risk of ash exposure.

Beyond regional handling, the Head of the National Police Sabhara Corps also prepared SAR personnel and equipment as well as Sabhara patrols to support response efforts if needed. Preparedness included search and rescue support, evacuation, securing affected areas, traffic management, and patrols in areas potentially disrupted by eruption materials. SAR and Sabhara patrol personnel are ready to deploy according to field developments and needs. They are also prepared to assist the public, monitor routes, anticipate potential disruptions, and ensure community activities continue safely and orderly. Services were also provided at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, where Police distributed masks, conducted health checks, provided vitamins and medicine as needed, and distributed snacks to passengers affected by flight delays.

All of these actions are part of the Police’s preparedness in responding to the impact of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption. Units from the central to regional levels continue to monitor and prepare resources that can be deployed according to the situation. “The Police are present not only when people need security, but also when they need assistance and services. Water Cannons are deployed to help handle ash deposits on roads, masks are distributed, health services are provided, and SAR and Sabhara patrol personnel are prepared to support response efforts as needed in the field,” said Public Relations Division Chief Brigadier General Pol.
