Indonesian Police Launches Nationwide Operation Against Forest Fires

RRI.CO.ID. Jakarta - The Indonesian Police held a Troop Deployment Ceremony for Forest and Land Fire Handling for the 2026 Fiscal Year simultaneously across all Regional Police Commands on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The central ceremony was held at the Sabhara Corps Parade Ground, Baharkam Polri, Jakarta, as a form of preparedness to face potential forest and land fires in various regions of Indonesia.

The ceremony at the Sabhara Corps Headquarters was led by the Head of Sabhara Corps Baharkam Polri, Inspector General M. Nazly Harahap. A total of 420 joint personnel were involved in the activity. This consisted of 360 Polri personnel, 20 Basarnas personnel, 20 Depok City Fire Department personnel, and 20 BPBD personnel.

Inspector General Pol. M. Nazly Harahap stated that the ceremony serves as a momentum to ensure the readiness of personnel and facilities in facing the threat of forest and land fires, as well as to strengthen cross-agency coordination.

“This ceremony is a form of preparedness and shared commitment in dealing with forest and land fires. Handling forest and land fires requires a fast, precise, and coordinated response, so all personnel must understand their respective duties and responsibilities,” Nazly said in Jakarta.

According to the data, the area of forest and land fires in Indonesia from January to June 2026 has reached more than 107 thousand hectares. Fires occurred in several regions, including Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java, and other areas.

He explained that hot weather, drought, strong winds, and human activities such as land clearing by burning are some of the factors that can trigger forest and land fires. Therefore, Nazly emphasized that early action is crucial.

“We must not wait for the fire to grow bigger. Early detection, patrols, prevention, public education, and rapid response must be the main steps in handling forest and land fires,” he asserted.

Besides, Nazly stressed that handling forest and land fires cannot be done partially. Synergy is needed such as the Police, Military, local governments, fire departments, BPBD, Manggala Agni, the business sector, and the community.

“Synergy among all parties is key. The Police are ready to work together with all stakeholders to carry out prevention, handling, and law enforcement if there is evidence of intentional burning of forests and land,” he said.

He added that through this simultaneous ceremony, it is hoped that all ranks will have the same perception, operational readiness, and commitment to provide protection to the community and preserve the environment.

“We want to ensure that all personnel in the field are ready to provide services and protection to the community, while also protecting Indonesia’s forests and land from the threat of fires,” Nazly conveyed.
