RRI.CO.ID, Banyuwangi - Indonesia launched the Coastal Resilience Initiatives program to strengthen coastal ecosystem protection in Banyuwangi on Monday, July 27, 2026. The initiative promotes collaboration to support sustainable coastal development and community welfare.

The program involves the Indonesian Government, East Java Provincial Government, Banyuwangi Regency Government, businesses, universities, and local communities. The launch took place at the Indonesian Marine Corps Combat Training Center 7 Lampon.

Director of Marine Spatial Planning Development at the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Amehr Hakim, said the initiative aligns with Indonesia's blue economy policy. He explained the program supports sustainable management of marine and coastal resources.

The policy includes expanding marine conservation areas and implementing sustainable fisheries management. It also promotes coastal management, sustainable aquaculture, and reducing marine waste.

Amehr said the Banyuwangi initiative could become a model for other coastal regions. He expected similar programs to expand across northern and southern coastal areas of East Java.

"We hope this initiative will expand beyond Banyuwangi to other northern and southern coastal areas of East Java," he said.

Deputy Regent of Banyuwangi, Mujiono, said the regency has long implemented community-based sustainable marine management. He added stronger collaboration would improve ecosystem conservation and local livelihoods.

The program includes mangrove planting, coral reef restoration, coastal forest conservation, ecotourism development, fishermen's income improvement, and institutional strengthening. These initiatives aim to protect Indonesia's coastal ecosystems while supporting sustainable economic growth.
