RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Krüger Giverin, has praised Indonesia's efforts to achieve its net-zero emission target. According to her, the partnership between Indonesia and Norway to support this target through Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 program has been running very well.

Rut made the statement during her visit to the Voice of Indonesia building in Jakarta on Friday, 19 June 2026. She stated that Norway chose to invest in the plan because it was created by Indonesia itself, rather than being forced by foreign nations.

“This is a goal that we are very happy to support. For us, it's also very important that this is Indonesia's own plan. So it's not something we're imposing from the outside,” she said.

She explained that the relationship between the two countries does not stop at funding support but has developed into a broader strategic partnership. One of the sectors receiving attention is carbon trading.

Rut stated, “I think in addition to just the transactions or the payments that we do in support of Indonesia's work, we also have a very good strategic collaboration on related issues in the forest and land-use sector, such as the carbon markets.”

Rut stated that Indonesia has shown strong readiness in managing carbon credits, especially in attracting international funding from its emission reduction achievements. She added that cooperation between the two nations has grown even stronger, despite the transition in Indonesia's leadership.

“Indonesia is doing a fantastic job preparing to get additional funding from international sources for the carbon credits that Indonesia has. Therefore, we have been working closely with the previous government, and now with the new government. And I would say the partnership has never been better than it is now,” she explained.

Rut stated that cooperation between Indonesia and Norway in the FOLU Net Sink 2030 program has been developed since 2022 through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under the agreement, Norway committed to providing support worth $216 million.
