Lembang Arabica Coffee Makes First Export to Saudi Arabia

RRI.CO.ID, West Bandung - Lembang’s specialty coffee from the slopes of Mount Tangkuban Parahu has officially entered the Middle Eastern market, with West Bandung-based Tonas Coffee completing its initial export shipment of pineapple-fermented Arabica green beans to Saudi Arabia.
The initial export comprised four metric tons of pineapple-fermented green beans valued at approximately IDR 800 million (USD 45,073). The milestone followed a three-year preparation period to satisfy international export standards and meet specific buyer preferences in Riyadh, who selected the pineapple-fermented profile out of five submitted process samples.
Although the Saudi buyer initially requested a 25-ton shipment, limited raw coffee cherry supplies restricted the first delivery stage to four tons. To meet expanding global demand, including prospective export expansion to Japan next year, producers plan to double or triple production capacity to process over 100 tons of raw cherries collected from local farming communities in Cibodas Village.
Regional authorities and agricultural entrepreneurs highlighted that multi-stakeholder collaboration and specialized post-harvest processing are key to unlocking global markets for Indonesian specialty coffee.
West Bandung Deputy Regent Asep Ismail commended the cross-institutional support that enabled local coffee farmers to reach international buyers.
"Through joint efforts between local government, MSMEs, coffee farmers, Bank Indonesia, Customs, and the West Java Provincial Administration, Tonas Coffee has successfully penetrated the Saudi Arabian market, this success serves as a critical first step for West Bandung coffee to expand its footprint abroad, with ongoing preparation targeting Japan as the next export destination," Asep Ismail said in West Bandung on Monday, August 31, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Tonas Coffee Manager and youth farmer Dikdik Ramdaniansyah detailed the initial export metrics and ongoing supply chain challenges.
"Buyers in Riyadh selected our pineapple-fermented Arabica coffee after evaluating five distinct sample processes, while initial demand reached 25 tons, we fulfilled four tons valued at IDR 800 million for this first stage due to raw cherry supply constraints. Moving forward, we aim to double or triple our production capacity to meet rising global interest," Dikdik Ramdaniansyah explained. ***
