  • Indonesia's toy exports rose to USD 351.8 million in January-June 2026, highlighting opportunities to expand the country's presence in global markets.
  • Educational toys and broader adoption of Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification are expected to support growth in the domestic toy industry.

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's toy industry exports increased in January-June 2026 compared with the same period last year, with export value rising from USD 297.7 million to USD 351.8 million.

Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries at the Industry Ministry, Reni Yanita, said the achievement opens opportunities for Indonesia to further expand its penetration into global markets. The country's toy industry has also recorded a net export surplus over the past five years.

"Indonesia's current export markets include the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Australia and the Czech Republic. This achievement still leaves significant room for Indonesia to increase its penetration and contribution in the global market," Reni said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026.

In 2025, the toy industry's exports rose 8.2 percent from the previous year to approximately USD 664.6 million. From a trade perspective, Indonesia's toy industry continues to show positive prospects.

Reni emphasized the need to strengthen the domestic market by implementing standards, increasing the use of locally made products, and improving competitiveness. The measures are intended to increase demand for Indonesian-made toys in the domestic market while expanding their presence internationally.

"The main challenge facing the national industry today is not merely production capacity, but how we ensure that locally made products are adopted and used by the public while also capturing opportunities in the global supply chain," Reni said.

According to Reni, the toy industry has the potential to serve as both a labor-intensive sector and a producer of value-added products.

"The toy industry has a production base that can continue to be strengthened to increase its contribution to the national economy. Nationally, it has become part of an industrial ecosystem involving businesses ranging from small to large-scale enterprises," she said.

Based on 2024 data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and 2025 data from the National Industrial Information System (SIINas), 256 business units operate in the toy industry. The sector employs 15,663 workers and has 10 toy small and medium industry (IKM) centers across Central Java, East Java, and West Java.

Central Java has four toy IKM centers, while East Java has one. West Java has five toy IKM centers.

One area with strong growth potential is the educational products segment, which offers opportunities for learning media and other interactive products. Reni said the opportunity could be leveraged through products that support children's learning and development.

"This provides an opportunity for the toy industry to develop products such as educational toys, construction toys, puzzles and board games," she said.

Reni also noted that toys serve purposes beyond entertainment. They help foster children's creativity, motor skills, imagination and problem-solving abilities.

The Industry Ministry is also promoting the use of domestic products through the Increased Use of Domestic Products Program (P3DN). As of 2026, 65 toy manufacturers had obtained Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification.

"This shows that the national toy industry's capacity to meet domestic content requirements is beginning to take shape. It should continue to be expanded so that more local products can enter the government procurement market," Reni said. (Gusti Panji)
