RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s newly appointed Finance Minister, Suahasil Nazara, assured the public that the change in leadership at the Finance Ministry will not alter the direction of the government’s fiscal policy. His remarks came as financial markets closely monitored the potential impact of the transition on the State Budget and economic stability.

“In my view, this isn’t a major change. It’s simply a continuation,” Minister Suahasil said after his inauguration at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026, as quoted by Antara. He noted that his previous role as Deputy Finance Minister has given him a strong understanding of the ministry’s policies and ongoing work.

He emphasized that the Finance Ministry will continue efforts to maintain the health of state finances while implementing improvements. These measures aim to ensure the State Budget can support priority government programs and sustain economic growth and stability.

Regarding market reactions to the leadership change, Suahasil said he would leave the assessment to market mechanisms. “We’ll see how it goes, but the market has its own logic--let it be,” he said.

Minister Suahasil also revealed that President Prabowo Subianto had instructed him to safeguard the health and credibility of the State Budget. A sound fiscal framework, he said, is essential for implementing priority programs without disrupting economic stability.

Minister Suahasil was sworn in as Finance Minister, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, at the Presidential Palace on Monday. He previously served as Deputy Finance Minister since October 21, 2024.

With this appointment, Suahasil becomes the third Finance Minister in President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. Purbaya was appointed on September 8, 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani.

The leadership change has made fiscal policy continuity a key concern for the market. The government must now ensure that the transition does not undermine the credibility of the State Budget or the national economic agenda. ***
