RRI.CO.ID, Kuningan - Local coffee from the Mount Ciremai area in West Java is set to step onto the international stage at the World of Coffee event in Bangkok, Thailand. This move marks the culmination of efforts by the Kuningan Regency Administration and Bank Indonesia (BI) Cirebon in West Java to boost competitiveness and expand export market access for Kuningan coffee beans.

Head of Bank Indonesia Cirebon Representative Office (KPw BI Cirebon), Wihujeng Ayu Renganis, said coffee from the Kuningan and Mount Ciremai areas has great potential as a driver of the local economy. However, this potential can only be fully realized if development is carried out sustainably.

She said BI Cirebon is mentoring the Buana Ciremai Geographical Indication Protection Society (MPIG), which covers Kuningan and Majalengka, through improvements in productivity, quality, and coffee standards.

“We are bringing this Kuningan coffee to the world, to the world stage, to World of Coffee in Bangkok representing Kuningan to show that its quality is no less than other coffees,” she said on Sunday, 6 September 2026.

The Kuningan Regency Administration is also holding the Kuningan Kopi Festival 2026 on September 4–6, 2026, to enhance product competitiveness while opening cooperation opportunities for farmers and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Kuningan Regent, Dian Rachmat Yanuar, hopes the festival will be the starting point for more serious coffee development so that the commodity can provide added value for the community. He noted that Kuningan’s coffee production increased from around 775 tons in 2023 to 1,236 tons within one year, indicating growing opportunities for the commodity.

He revealed an order for 30 tons of Arabica coffee from international buyers that could not yet be fulfilled. Therefore, increasing production along with improving quality and financing remains a shared task to expand the market for Kuningan coffee.

“That is why I hope this Kuningan Kopi Festival does not stop merely as a festival, but serves as a momentum to build Kuningan through coffee,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Head of the Kuningan Regency Cooperative, Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM), Trade and Industry Agency, Toni Kusumanto, said the festival serves as a venue to connect coffee actors with prospective buyers and business partners.

“This festival becomes a space to encourage MSME actors in the coffee sector to be able to increase their capacity and competitiveness, both in national and international markets,” he said in Kuningan on Sunday.

The activity centered at Pandapa Paramarta, Mashud Wisnusaputra Stadium Complex, Kuningan Regency, involved 75 booths showcasing coffee products and various supporting businesses. Toni said the festival is not only oriented toward promotion, but also provides business matching to connect MSME actors with prospective partners so that business cooperation opportunities can open more widely.

In addition, packaging and MSME legality clinics are available to help business actors improve product readiness before entering larger markets.

“We are optimistic that this activity can open opportunities for cooperation and concrete business agreements, while also increasing the capacity of small and medium business actors in the coffee sector,” he said. ***
