BI to Maintain Stability as Global Uncertainty Remains High

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Bank Indonesia (BI) will continue to prioritize stability amid ongoing high global uncertainty. BI Governor-elect Destry Damayanti made this statement during an interview at the Indonesian House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

“Under current conditions, with global uncertainty still high, stability remains critical for us,” Destry was quoted as saying by Antara.

Destry stated that BI will continue policies deemed relevant by the previous leadership. However, policy adjustments will still be necessary in line with current economic developments.

Following the inauguration ceremony at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, September 2, the members of the Board of Governors (ADG) will be assigned their respective areas of responsibility. This step is being taken to ensure each member’s duties and responsibilities are carried out effectively as soon as possible.

Coordination with the government will also be strengthened, particularly to align monetary and fiscal policies. “The government, with its fiscal policy and expansion plans, will carry them out, and BI will certainly support those efforts,” said Destry.

According to Destry, communication between BI and the government is essential to ensure that fiscal and monetary policies are implemented in tandem. Coordination is also aimed at keeping inflation within target, particularly volatile food inflation, which requires supply-side intervention.

BI will also strengthen cooperation with the government and the business sector to encourage transactions using local currency (LCT). Destry added that BI has been discussing with the House the creation of quality economic growth, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

During her fit-and-proper test before the House’s Commission XI, Destry previously proposed the “Sinergi Merah Putih” concept as a framework to link various BI policies. This concept aims to optimize inter-institutional coordination without compromising each institution’s mandate and authority.

The plenary session of the House approved Destry as Governor of BI, Aida S. Budiman as Senior Deputy Governor, and Solikin M. Juhro as Deputy Governor of BI for the 2026–2031 period. ***
