  • The government is focusing on better infrastructure, digital transformation, and green energy to keep these industrial areas competitive and support an eight percent national economic growth target.

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Industrial areas have now become the main engine of economic growth and a major draw for foreign investment in Indonesia. Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, made the statement at the Indonesian Industrial Areas Association (HKI)’s 25th National Working Meeting (RAKERNAS) in Jakarta on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The industrial sector has proven to play a strategic role in driving investment, creating jobs, and strengthening national competitiveness. To support the economic growth target of eight percent, the government continues to strengthen infrastructure integration and connectivity within industrial zones.

The Minister noted that currently, Indonesia has 129 industrial zones spread across 24 provinces, covering a total land area of 170,000 hectares. These zones are home to approximately 10,400 manufacturing companies and employ up to 4.5 million workers, proving that industrial zones are a driving force for the nation.

“Industrial zones are a driving force for the nation, creating jobs and improving welfare,” he emphasized in a written statement on Saturday, July 1, 2026.

Amid dynamic global competition, Indonesia has a great opportunity to become a top investment destination as competing countries begin to face land constraints and surging energy costs. Additionally, Airlangga noted that a JETRO survey found that approximately 70 percent of Japanese companies in Indonesia are turning a profit.

As technology advances, industrial zones are also being guided to adapt to digital transformation and the need for green energy. New investment opportunities, such as the development of data centers, are further supported by the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA).

The government has pledged to continue accelerating policy implementation to address the various investment barriers faced by businesses on the ground. This step is being taken to ensure that all industrial zones can continue to develop in an orderly and sustainable manner.
